Nuvia CRISOL Guerra is rooted in Mexican/Chicana narrative art. Though not overtly political, she explores social and cultural themes. Crisol constructs complex layers of iconic imagery. Her paintings, in vivid hues, become an arena teeming with symbol, metaphor, and allegory. She has created a hybrid of sensibilities, echoing Posada and Kahlo, into her unique vision. A vision that is never simply derivative, but consistently magical. Guerra's staging of the visual is historical, anecdotal and above all an avenue into her personal cultural impulses.
